This is well known song that is held as an anthem. It is performed stately even though the lyrics are quite emotional. This is common in Irish song. I stayed with that in this recording except that I did add harmony. The delivery is very matter of fact, but the singer is supported by her friends in harmony.
I'sé mo laoch mo Ghile Mear.
He is my hero, my bright strength/spirit.
‘Sé mo Chaesar, Ghile Mear,
He is my Caesar, true strength,
Suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas féin
Rest nor prosperity I have not gotten
Ó chuaigh i gcéin mo Ghile Mear.
Since you went long ago, my true love.
Bímse buan ar buairt gach ló,
I am enduring sorrow every day,
Ag caoi go cruaidh ‘s ag tuar na ndeor
In a way hardened weeping tears
Mar scaoileadh uaim an buachaill beo,
Since released from union the lively boy,
‘S ná ríomhtar tuairisc uaidh, mo bhrón.
And no informative story from him, alas.
Ní labhrann cuach go suairc ar nóin
The cuckoo doesn't speak cheerfully at noon
Is níl guth gadhair i gcoilltibh cnó,
And no voice of hounds in the nut-tree forest,
Ná maidin shamhraidh i ngleanntaibh ceoigh.
Nor summer morning in the foggy glen.
Ó d’imthigh sé uaim an buachaill beó.
Since he went away from me, the lively boy.
Seal dá rabhas im’ mhaighdean shéimh,
For a time I was a fine maiden,
‘S anois im’ bhaintreach chaite thréith.
And now I'm a widow worn out & feeble.
Mo chéile ag treabhadh na dtonn go tréan
My husband plowing the waves violently
De bharr na gcnoc is in imigéin.
Therefore over the hills and away.
